ExxonMobil Guyana Country Manager, Rod Henson, believes that the Guyana International Petroleum Exhibition and Summit which opened on Wednesday has exceeded expectations by attracting a high degree of participation from major players in the industry in what is just the first year of the event.

Speaking to OilNOW on the sidelines of the signature petroleum exhibition and summit, Mr. Henson said the turn out seen at the opening of the event is “incredible” since in most cases, such events “take a couple of years to catch on.”

“I couldn’t be more pleased. It really has exceeded expectations. This event has been long in planning. You never know how it is going to turn out and for this level of participation, this level of interest for the first year; is really incredible,” he said.

The broad participation and support seen at the event, the Country Manager said, bodes well for the South American country as it gears up to join the oil producing nations of the world.

ExxonMobil Guyana is a Strategic Partner of GIPEX 2018 and has been fully supporting all the efforts leading up to the opening of the 3-day event. The company is credited with placing Guyana in the global spotlight having made 6 spectacular oil discoveries offshore in two years.

GIPEX 2018 has attracted more than 600 delegates and well over 175 companies, a number of which are big name corporations in the world of oil and gas.

Key contractors of ExxonMobil Guyana such as SBM Offshore and TechnipFMC among a number of others are also participating in the event.

Vice President of ExxonMobil Development Company, Lisa Waters delivered a keynote address at the opening of the event which is being held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in the country’s capital, Georgetown.
