Guyanese will have another opportunity to learn more about key aspects of the oil and gas industry with the staging of another public lecture on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. The focus of this lecture will be the cultural impact on safety in oil & gas.
This will be the 5th in a series of public lectures organized by the Guyana Oil and Gas Association (GOGA). Tuesday’s event is being supported by Guyanese oil and gas services company, El Dorado Offshore.
GOGA’s President and CEO, Bobby Gossai Jr. told OilNOW on Saturday the early history of the offshore oil and gas industry demonstrates priority given to production over safety as a result of constant pressure to recoup the huge investments made in leases, structures, equipment, and personnel as rapidly as possible. Hence, Guyana, must ensure that it develops a safety culture from the very start of all offshore related tasks.
“Although there exists no single definitive set of elements that constitute safety culture, the various versions of those elements overlap considerably. Thus, the development of a local safety policy must encompass these characteristics,” he said.
The lecture will be delivered by Edward Brathwaite, Director and Principal Consultant at InCrEdible Safety Services Limited, a safety consulting firm based in Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Brathwaite holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Anglia Ruskin University, specializing in Leadership Entrepreneurship and Innovation and earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of the West Indies in Chemistry.
The lecture will be held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel and begins at 18:30hrs.
