ExxonMobil is ramping up its exploration activities offshore Guyana, targeting a new prospect at the 6.6 million acres Stabroek Block.

Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) said in a notice that the company Guyana will be engaged in exploration drilling operations at the Tarpon well site utilizing the Stena DrillMax rig.

The well site is situated approximately 122.3 nautical miles (226.5 kilometers) offshore and covers an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).

Exxon is currently engaged in a 25-well exploration campaign. That drilling campaign is expected to conclude in the first half of 2023, after which a 35-well campaign is expected to commence.

The oil major has so far discovered 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels at the Stabroek Block.
