Guyana’s National Small Business Week is set to kick off from July 21-29, 2023, and this year’s edition is expected to feature the participation of around 60 small businesses. Under the theme of “Strategic Collaboration for Success,” the event aims to foster partnerships that will pave the way for growth for these enterprises. The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, along with corporate sponsor GTT, to host the event.
During the launching ceremony at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre on Friday, Kester Hutson, the President of GCCI, emphasized the significance of the event in enabling small businesses to access the resources they need for development.
“With our over 800 members within the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we will now ask these members to start looking at the different lenses of collaboration… pool their resources, go after contracts, go after projects, to grow in a successful and steady manner,” Hutson stated.
Evie Gurcharan, Chairperson for the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Committee, revealed that this year’s National Small Business Week will adopt a broader approach, offering an even greater platform for entrepreneurs to thrive. Gurcharan invited the general public to support the 60 participating businesses, which represent a diverse range of industries, including vendors from both GCCI and GTT.
Orson Ferguson, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Business Solutions at GTT, stated “We think that the expo is an excellent platform for small businesses. We think that the seminars and the training, and exposure that those activities bring to small businesses is extremely important.”
The nine-day activity lineup for the National Small Business Week will feature various celebrations of small businesses, including a video series highlighting rising entrepreneurs. The event will culminate in a business seminar and expo held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. While the expo is exclusive to GCCI members and GTT vendors, the seminars will be live-streamed, allowing individuals to attend or view them online.
