President of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings Simons moments ago said Petronas informed her just this morning that it made another discovery at Block 52.
Simons made the announcement during her keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Suriname Energy, Oil and Gas Summit in Paramaribo.
Petronas is pursuing a natural gas development offshore Suriname in Block 52, based on the Sloanea discovery. Staatsolie announced in November that it approved the commercial field for the Sloanea-1 gas discovery, a key step for Petronas to advance toward development.
A final investment decision is expected in the second half of 2026, with first gas anticipated by 2030.
