Guarantee International Crating Inc. (GIC Inc.) emerged onto the scene of Guyana’s oil and gas sector with a vision to provide reliable and compliant crating services tailored to the industry’s stringent standards. Nickel Hazelwood, Operations Manager and one of the founding Directors shared with OilNOW the company’s journey from inception to its current position as a key player in the sector.

The idea for GIC Inc. originated from recognizing the need for certified crating services in the local marketplace. Hazelwood explained, “The company’s Business Manager initially came to Guyana for a major oilfield service company. The idea for the company came about when looking at the local marketplace for reliable and certified crating services and realizing that service was not available in the form…the sector would require in terms of export compliance.”

With a robust network and a focused approach, GIC Inc. quickly gained traction. Hazelwood highlighted that GIC’s partnership with Falcon Logistics is what spearheaded its entry into the market. Subsequently, the company forged relationships with major logistics firms and secured a client base that includes industry giants like ExxonMobil Guyana Limited and TechnipFMC Guyana.

Key to GIC Inc.’s success has been its adaptability and commitment to quality. “The company has forged a reputation for reliable and high-quality services and goods, able to deliver consistently and often to tight deadlines,” Hazelwood emphasized.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. But through engagement with government agencies and leveraging the team’s experience, GIC Inc. navigated these challenges successfully.

To ensure compliance and efficiency, GIC Inc. developed a tailored management system aligned with ISO 9001:2015 standards. Hazelwood stressed, “Understanding the market price has been key in the growth of the business as well as truly understanding the needs of our customer base.”

Moreover, the company prioritizes local content and talent development. Hazelwood highlighted GIC’s workforce, which comprises 100% Guyanese tradesmen, nurtured through on-the-job training and development initiatives.

Looking ahead, GIC Inc. remains poised for further growth and expansion. With a focus on real estate planning to accommodate increasing demand, the company is poised to capitalize on future opportunities in Guyana’s dynamic oil and gas landscape.

As Hazlewood aptly summarized, “The natural progression for shore base facilities would lead to multiple O&G-focused supply nodes along the coast of Guyana. In order to better serve these new customers, GIC Inc’s future plans will include a presence in the major supply hubs.”
