A panel discussion on Guyana’s planned gas to power project will premiere on OilNOW TV this evening as part of a series focusing on the initiative that is expected to have a significant transformational impact on the new oil producing country.

Around 20 percent of the 9 billion barrels of oil equivalent resources discovered at the Stabroek Block is associated natural gas – estimated to be in the order of more than 9.6 trillion cubic feet. ExxonMobil, operator at the block, has said this gas meet the requirements of the proposed power project and is working with the government to make the plan a reality.

Arthur Deakin, Co-Director of Energy at Americas Market Intelligence, Roger Kranenburg, CFA, Vice President, Energy Strategy and Policy at Eversource Energy and Joel Bhagwandin, Financial Analyst at JB Consultancy & Associates will form part of the panel, moderated by Chris Chapwanya, Head of Content Development at OilNOW.

The discussion will examine the environmental considerations associated with piping gas from around 120 miles offshore at the Liza Phase 1 Development and setting up the land-base infrastructure that includes a power generation plant.

Focus will also be placed on the financial models available for funding this large-scale project and the economic returns and spin-off benefits the pipeline can bring for Guyana as well as its regional neighbours.

In addition to power generation, there are other uses for natural gas such as the production of feedstock and fertilizer, which can be used in the agricultural sector and for exports.

Expert have already said no technical barriers exist for piping gas from the Stabroek Block to shore, and with Guyana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expected to triple in coming years, making this project a reality is key to wealth creation in the South American country.

The programme will premiere at 19:00 hrs (Guyana time) on OilNOW TV and can be viewed on its Facebook Page.
