ExxonMobil is engaged in appraisal drilling operations at the Barreleye-2 well of the Stabroek Block.
The operation started on April 6, using the Stena Carron rig, and will conclude by July 31, Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) said in a notice.
This follows the 2022 Barreleye-1 discovery, located 20 miles southeast of the original Liza field, where the first offshore oil development is located. Exxon had said it found 230 feet (70 meters) of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone, and the drilling was conducted in 6,315 feet (1,925 meters) of water.

The Stabroek Block is operated by ExxonMobil with a 45% stake, with co-venturers Hess (30%) and CNOOC (25%). Exxon has discovered approximately 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent since its first commercial find in 2015.
