Dutch shipbuilder, SBM Offshore, said it has reserved a multi-purpose floater hull for the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel it is expected to construct for ExxonMobil’s sixth development offshore Guyana.

In its 2023 Annual Report, the company said the hull ‘MPF5’, for the Jaguar FPSO, is under fabrication at China’s SWS yard. An Upstream Online report had indicated up to December that SWS completed the keel-laying process for the hull.

The FPSO, which is to be used for the Whiptail project, is designed to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day, will have associated gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 300,000 barrels per day. The FPSO will be spread moored in water depth of about 1,630 meters and will be able to store over 2 million barrels of crude oil.

SBM Offshore was awarded contracts to perform front end engineering and design (FEED) for the FPSO in October 2023. Exxon submitted the field development plan (FDP) and environmental impact assessment (EIA) last year.

Guyana’s Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, said the government expects to approve the project in the first quarter of 2024. First oil is expected in 2027.
