Natoya Coward, the first and only female truck driver at Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI), has been blazing trails in a traditionally male-dominated industry. For the past 14 months, Coward has demonstrated resilience and determination, navigating the challenges of her role with confidence and grace.

“My journey to this role began after a career as a nurse at the Linden Hospital Complex,” Coward shared. Transitioning from healthcare to the demanding world of heavy machinery wasn’t easy, especially as a single mother balancing work and family responsibilities. However, Coward’s commitment to her new path never wavered. “Despite the long commute and demanding schedule, I remained resilient, excelling in the truck training,” she noted. Her hard work paid off, leading to a promotion as a truck driver.

This support has been crucial in helping her navigate the challenges of her role.

Coward takes immense pride in being a female trailblazer at GYSBI. “I aspire to inspire other females to pursue their dreams, regardless of traditional gender roles,” she stated. Her next goal is to become the first female train operator at the shore base, setting an example for future generations. “This journey has taught me that with determination and hard work, your possibilities are endless.”
