Oil production from Guyana’s Uaru field is expected to rise steadily after start-up, strengthening offshore supply over the medium term, according to S&P Global Energy CERA. 

“…production at the ultra-deepwater Uaru field is estimated to begin in July at nearly 136,000 barrels per day (b/d), with a ramp up to roughly 215,000 b/d by 2027,” S&P Global Energy CERA said on January 5.

The US$12.7 billion development targets more than 800 million barrels of recoverable oil. It will comprise up to 10 drill centers and 44 wells and is designed to reach peak production of 250,000 barrels per day.

Japanese contractor MODEC is constructing the Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading vessel, which will handle processing and storage for the field.

The government has highlighted efficiency and emissions controls built into the vessel’s design. Power will be supplied by a combined-cycle gas turbine, while a closed-loop flare system will limit operational emissions.

Uaru lies within the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. ExxonMobil operates the Block with a 45% interest, alongside Hess with 30% and CNOOC with 25%.
