EITI lifts Guyana’s suspension; publishes country’s 2020 report

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) has lifted its suspension of Guyana’s membership.

“The EITI Board temporarily suspended Guyana on 1 February 2023 for failing to publish its 2020 EITI Report. In accordance with the EITI Standard, it was agreed that the suspension would be lifted if the EITI Board is satisfied that the outstanding EITI Report was published within six months of the deadline,” the organisation said.

It confirmed that Guyana published its 2020 EITI report on June 30, 2023.

Guyana’s fifth and next report, focusing on the year 2021, is due for publication in December 2023. The EITI Board, on June 12 2023, voted to adopt the 2023 Standard, at the Global Conference in Dakar, Senegal. Key new provisions include company disclosures of greenhouse gas emissions and increasing understanding of the energy transition.
