Gerald Gouveia Jr. of Roraima Airways has been elected Chairman of Guyana’s Private Sector Commission (PSC), while Kathy Smith of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry made history as the first woman elected to serve as Vice Chairman. Their appointments followed a vote on Tuesday by representatives of PSC member organizations at the body’s Annual General Meeting for the 2025–2026 term.

Smith’s election follows her recent election as the first female President of the GCCI

Also elected to the Commission’s Executive Committee were Imran Saccoor of the Region Five Chamber of Commerce and Industry as Treasurer, Clinton Urling of German’s Restaurant as Secretary, and Manniram Prashad of MP Insurance Brokers and Consultants Limited as Corporate Coordinator.

The Private Sector Commission, established in 1992, is a coalition of business organizations representing a wide cross-section of Guyana’s private sector. Today, it plays a pivotal role in promoting a thriving business environment in the country.

The Commission’s Executive is elected annually by designated voting representatives of member organizations.

They are as follows:

  3. Samantha Reid – Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association

  6. Dave Dhanraj – Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  7. Mona Bynoe – Forest Products Association of Guyana

  9. Ravina Dindial – Guyana Association of Bankers Inc.
