ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) will continue autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) survey operations at the Haimara Field in the Stabroek Block offshore, according to a Notice to Mariners issued by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD).

The notice said the activity began on January 1, 2026, and “is scheduled to conclude on February 28, 2026”. The survey is taking place within Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

According to MARAD, the operation will incorporate the use of the OSV Amara 7807 vessel.  The survey area is located about 102.47 nautical miles, or 189.78 kilometers, from Guyana’s coast. It covers roughly 305.75 square nautical miles, equivalent to 1,048.70 square kilometers.

Haimara was Exxon’s 12th discovery offshore Guyana. The Haimara-1 well “encountered approximately 207 feet (63 meters) of high-quality gas condensate-bearing sandstone reservoir” after being drilled to a depth of 18,289 feet (5,575 meters) in 4,590 feet (1,399 meters) of water.

The Government of Guyana has been urging Exxon to advance development of the Haimara and nearby Pluma gas fields close to the Suriname border. The company is assessing a major gas project that could route supply to Berbice, which President Irfaan Ali has said must become a new growth pole as Guyana’s economy expands.

Guyana is already progressing with Gas-to-Energy infrastructure at Wales in West Bank Demerara, using gas from the Liza field in the first phase. A second phase is expected to utilize gas from the Hammerhead development in 2029.

In parallel, the government recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Cerebras Systems to develop a 100-megawatt data center in Wales. The facility is expected to be powered by gas transported through a pipeline installed by Exxon last year.
