Paramakatoi Secondary, Abram Zuil Secondary, and St. Rose’s High emerged as champions in the third annual Guyana-Monaco Mousetrap Car Grand Prix Competition. The event was hosted by SBM Offshore Guyana at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown on Thursday.

Paramakatoi Secondary secured first place in the innovation and creativity category. Abram Zuil Secondary led the acceleration category, while St. Rose’s High topped the advanced category. This category required cars to move forward and backward without external intervention.

Students from the three winning schools – Paramakatoi Secondary, St. Rose’s High, and Abram Zuil Secondary.

Twelve schools, including St. Joseph’s High, Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary, and Marian Academy, competed in three categories: acceleration, advanced, and innovation and creativity. Winners received science lab equipment and a chance to compete internationally in Monaco.

The competition serves as the local qualifier for the prestigious Monaco Mousetrap Car Grand Prix, founded by Marco Casiraghi under the patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco. It aims to engage students in Science and Engineering through hands-on activities.

The winning teams from each category will be considered for the international competition. If selected, they will represent Guyana in Monaco, attend the Historic Grand Prix, and enjoy a week-long expense-paid trip.

Supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the event fosters youth interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, offering them international exposure and unique learning experiences.
