The model is now completed for Silica City, Guyana’s first smart and sustainable city project. This is according to President of the new oil producing South American country, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

“We are well on the journey of delivering on the dream of Silica City, making Silica City a reality and the most desirable city that one may want to live in,” the President said at the opening of the signature International Building Expo event on Thursday, at Guyana’s Providence National Stadium.

Plans for new urban centre outside Georgetown progressing; utility companies being engaged | OilNOW

A press release from the Department of Public Information said the government partnered with the University of Miami to complete the comprehensive plan for Silica City. During the building expo, the master plan for the city will be revealed, showcasing all the cutting-edge technologies and other amenities it will have. 

“We will have this Silica City realised by 2030. Nothing will stop us. We are going to continue engaging and working with the best planners,” Ali stated.

The idea of Silica City is primarily born out of the need for Guyana to have an urban centre that is complementary to the existing capital, Georgetown.
