Repsol to begin survey offshore Guyana this week

Spanish oil company Repsol will begin undertaking a geotechnical survey in the Kanuku Block offshore Guyana on Saturday. The survey activities are scheduled to continue until February 24.

The MV Regulus will conduct the operation some 66 nautical miles from shore, covering an area of 23 square kilometers.

The Kanuku Block, which is operated by Repsol, is located south of ExxonMobil’s Stabroek Block where more than five billion barrels of recoverable oil have been found.

Repsol completed the acquisition of 2D in 2013 and 3D seismic data in 2013 and 2017 on the Kanuku block and plans to drill the first exploration well in 2019. The company sees Kanuku as a good prospect for medium-sized discoveries up-dip from the Liza trend.

Repsol holds a 70% stake in the Kanuku Block while Tullow holds 30%.
