The Dutch-speaking South American country of Suriname says it stands ready to share its knowledge in oil and gas with its English-speaking neighbour Guyana, where preparations for oil production is underway.

Surinamese Ambassador to Guyana, Ebu Jones, presented his letter of credence to Guyanese President, David Granger, on Wednesday in Georgetown.

Ambassador Jones said Suriname’s 40 years of experience in oil and gas can provide for knowledge-sharing with Guyana, a new-comer to the petroleum industry.

“The Republic of Suriname with 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry is willing to share this knowledge with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and, if necessary, to support the further development thereof,” the Ambassador said.

President Granger indicated that Guyana looks forward to working with Suriname on wide-ranging areas of cooperation.

“Guyana looks forward to working with Suriname within the ambit of the Caribbean Community and the Guyana Suriname Corporation Council, to continue to improve trade, to intensify cultural, economic and environmental and social corporation to combat transnational threats,” the Guyanese President said.

  1. Guyana need to chart its own independent course.Suriname will be a neighbour. But it will be a better neighbor when it stops printing maps that show the New River triange are as part of Surinamese territory. As the then President of Guyana had stated in my time in the National Service to Suriname. Not a blade of grass.Suriname should withdraw its claim of territory that it falsely claims and cannot get anyways.Especially now. This should be the first gesture for any cooperative ventures with Suriname or Venezuela for that matter.
