Over 1,000 Guyanese have been working on projects that culminated with the commissioning of the 1st floating oil production complex on Saturday in Singapore. The vessel will soon set sail for the South American country where oil production is set to begin within months.  These men and women continue to work on various aspects of ExxonMobil’s oil development in Guyana.

The 120,000 bpd Liza Destiny FPSO will play a lead role in converting Guyana’s black gold into hard cash, providing an avenue to significantly transform the small country of 750,000 people.

“I hope that it will benefit not only the partners and their profits but also the Government and people of Guyana. I think it is a fitting name for our country because we are talking about destiny, we are talking longterm and we are talking what I believe is vision not only for production but the process behind it,” stated Guyana’s First Lady, Sandra Granger, who commissioned the vessel at the Keppel Shipyard where it has been under construction over the last year.

Speaking on a video production released by ExxonMobil Guyana on Tuesday evening via its local facebook page, Country Manager, Rod Henson, said a number of Guyanese worked on the project which culminated with the completion of the more than 300 meters long and 60 meters wide oil production complex. “We have over a thousand Guyanese men and women that have been working on this project very diligently and so to see this blossoming industry become a reality; it’s becoming very real now,” he stated.

ExxonMobil Guyana Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs, Deedra Moe, told OilNOW on Saturday following the commissioning of the Liza Destiny that the occasion represents a historic moment that has been made a reality through the commitment of the team that worked on the conversion of the vessel. “This is an important step in the road to first oil. The ceremony marks the final stage for the Liza Destiny as it readies to set sail for Guyana next month. We’re proud of the project team who has worked together as one team to accomplish this important milestone.”

The Liza Destiny will be spread moored at the Liza field located in the Stabroek block 200 kilometers offshore Guyana, in water depth of 1,525 meters and will be able to store 1.6 million barrels of crude oil.

Dutch floater specialist, SBM Offshore, is the company that was contracted by ExxonMobil to provided Front End Engineering and Design for the Liza Destiny.
