A 100 percent Guyanese-owned manpower services company has acquired Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) 2006 certification even as it moves to provide human resources not only to the offshore oil and gas operations in Guyana, but also to countries in the region.

Pandora Energy engaged an external assessor from Panama to audit its systems for MLC 2006 certification and at the conclusion of the process, the Guyanese company was found to be compliant in accordance with The Seafarers Recruitment and Placement Service Providers (SRPSP) and with the Regulation 1.4, Standard A1.4 and Guideline B1.4 of the Maritime Labor Convention(MLC) 2006.

“We remain thankful to our clients that invested in Pandora Energy and the Guyanese seafarers who are continuing to build their capacity with international experience. Armed now with MLC 2006 certification, we are poised to place manpower on ocean going vessels. Our company wishes to reiterate that without our oil and gas customers, we cannot survive as a business and plan to continue to employ Guyanese nationals,” said Narissa Haroon, Crewing Manager at Pandora Energy.

Recently six Guyanese were granted permission to board the MV Harvey Carrier and MV Harvey Supplier in Peru working on the Karoon Drilling Project which is currently ongoing. Pandora Energy became one of the first Guyanese companies to provide seafarers in Trinidad, Suriname and Peru, in addition to those working in Guyana’s emerging petroleum industry.

“We were first given a big break with Harvey Gulf International Marine, who contracted us to provide seafarers to the MV Harvey Power and MV Harvey Eagle on the Tullow Drilling Programme offshore Guyana at the Orinduik Block,” Haroon stated.

This led to the company’s recruits being granted work and training opportunities in Trinidad on the MV Harvey Sailor and on the Repsol project at the CARAPA well offshore Guyana.

“Furthermore, Guyanese were working through Pandora Energy in Suriname on the MV Harvey Champion and MV Harvey Supporter – on the Apache Drilling Programme. Guyanese Seafarers were also placed on MV Miss Megan, MV Seahorse 11 and MV Atlantic Spirit working on seismic projects offshore Guyana, via Inland Offshore Contractors Limited (IOCL),” the Crewing Manager pointed out.

Pandora Energy was established in 2017 and started out with 15 employees. That number has since more than doubled.
