Italian oilfield services company Saipem has confirmed that it will be moving forward with the opening ceremony of its Offshore Construction Facility in the new oil producing country of Guyana next month. The opening, originally scheduled for May, was postponed after essential staff at the facility were exposed to COVID-19.
The Opening Ceremony will now take place on Saturday June 5 at the company’s Georgetown location. “Proper COVID measures have been planned and implemented for the event,” Giorgio Martelli, President and CEO of Saipem said.
The facility features a heavy load bearing jetty, the largest heavy lift crane in Guyana and specialized welding and testing equipment.
The company has said all construction work was awarded to local Guyanese contractors.
