The lifetime of Guyana’s first Stabroek Block development – Liza Phase 1 is set to be extended to accommodate the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project, Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said.
The Liza permit is currently under review.
The GTE is set to come on stream by 2024 but Dr. Jagdeo explained that the Liza permit will expire in 2037 – leaving Guyana with a limited timeline to get as much natural gas as it can from the field.
“The project is built with a 20-year lifespan so once we complete the review, it will allow us to ensure that we have adequate gas coming in to generate enough power for Guyana,” he told a media conference on April 13.
Guyana’s gas reserves as of 2022 increased to over 17 trillion cubic feet; 50 million cubic feet per day will be utilised for the GTE project at Wales, from the Liza field.
Just recently the UK-based Bayphase helped Guyana with ExxonMobil’s proposed amendments to its Liza development to accommodate the GTE.
US-based partnership CH4/Lindsayca was granted a no-objection by the government to construct the 300 megawatts (MW) combined cycle power plant and NGL facility.
The GTE is expected to be the most transformational project in Guyana’s history.
