Destination Guyana is the hottest thing on the market, evidenced by the way airlines are rushing to fly the South American country’s route. Over the past few months, Guyana has seen an influx of new airlines, no doubt brought on by its oil and gas success and quick rise as a must-see tourist destination.
Of the list, British Airways ranks at the top; the major airline recently commenced direct flights from Guyana to London on March 27. To sweeten the deal, Guyanese no longer need a United Kingdom (UK) visa for travel under six months.
Dominica’s Sky Cana was recently added to the list, as the company got the government’s stamp of approval to fly the Guyana-Canada route from June 1. Sky Cana’s fleet includes 3- AIRBUS A321; 4- AIRBUS A320; 1- AIRBUS A330-300 and 1- AIRBUS A330-200. Sky Cana is looking to fly three times a week to Canada.

Also from Dominica is Arajet. The low-cost airline got permission from its local authorities to fly the Guyana route, however, according to Guyana’s aviation regulator, a formal application is yet to be made.
Big names like American Airlines were first in line when Guyana reopened as the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper on the aviation industry. Fly Allways and Inter Caribbean are among the regional carriers also flying the Guyana route.
Guyana is now also looking to see direct flights to Europe through The Netherlands with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo revealed at his last press conference.
The VP explained that Guyana is being developed as a hub for regional travel, and as such, it is in Guyana’s best interest to get as many airlines as possible plying the route.
These airlines face a rigorous application process, however. It includes an in-depth financial analysis to show how viable, stable, solvent, and profitable the business is, along with an economic analysis and a review to satisfy airline safety requirements.
