PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V. has opted to extend the contract for the 7th generation drillship Noble Voyager to drill an additional well in Block 52 offshore Suriname, Noble Corporation said in a LinkedIn post.

The contract, valued at a day rate of US$470,000, is set to commence directly after the current well – Fusaea – with an estimated duration of 70 days.

Blake Denton, Noble’s Senior Vice President of Marketing & Contracts, stated, “This extension continues our very important collaboration with PETRONAS over several years on the Suriname drilling campaign. Additional work for the Noble Voyager in Block 52 shows a strong alliance between our companies and one that makes us proud.”

This decision follows PETRONAS’s major oil discovery at the Roystonea-1 exploration well last November and the Sloanea-1 gas discovery in 2020, both of which demonstrated promising reservoir qualities in the Campanian sandstone formations.

With TotalEnergies progressing development plans in nearby Block 58, Block 52 presents potential for further development offshore Suriname.

Spanning 4,749 square kilometers in the Guyana-Suriname Basin, Block 52 is operated by PETRONAS Suriname E&P with a 50% interest, while ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Suriname B.V. holds the remaining 50%.
