Suriname’s state oil firm Staatsolie and the National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) have signed new agreements to enhance regional energy cooperation.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the 2024 Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit and Exhibition, witnessed by Suriname’s Foreign Minister Albert Ramdin and Trinidad’s Non-Resident Ambassador Conrad Enill. Staatsolie Managing Director Annand Jagesar and National Energy President Dr. Vernon Paltoo were the signatories.

The agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the joint study of sustainable energy projects and a Letter of Intent (LoI) for capacity building and knowledge exchange. National Energy said these initiatives aim to explore and develop sustainable energy projects and enhance expertise in both nations’ energy sectors.

Staatsolie said the agreements build on a previous MoU signed in July last year focusing on regional gas supply, industry development, renewable energy, clean petrochemicals, and public-private partnerships. The 2023 MoU was endorsed by Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi and T&T’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, with coordination led by Staatsolie and National Energy.
