Guyana’s National Procurement and Center Administration Board published a list of four bidders for a contract to conduct a 3D Multi-Client Seismic Survey offshore Guyana:

The four bidders are PSS-GEO from Norway, CGG Veritas Services UK Ltd. from the United Kingdom, a joint venture between Latitude Energy Inc. from Guyana and Shearwater Geoservices Ltd. from the United Kingdom, and the fourth bidder is TGS Magseis.

The tenders were opened on October 3, 2024.

The Ministry of Natural Resources had issued a request for expressions of interest from reputable and experienced firms to carry out the seismic survey. Later, the Minister of Natural Resources revealed that seven companies had been shortlisted for consideration to conduct the seismic study.

The purpose of gathering seismic data offshore, the government said, is to assist in exploration and potential hydrocarbon resource development. Additionally, the Ministry wants to ensure the availability of high-quality seismic data for effective evaluation during future bidding and licensing rounds.

Guyana previously concluded its first offshore licensing round and announced the awards in 2023, but no seismic survey was done in support of that round. The upcoming contract, when awarded, would be the first seismic study contracted by the government. Earlier this year, the government indicated plans also to review its internal data to inform decisions for a second round of licensing.

Guyana’s Vice President has noted that 3D seismic data is expected to enhance the appeal of Guyana’s offshore auction when it occurs again, as the country is competing with other jurisdictions for investment.
