SBM Offshore Guyana hosted a Local Content taskforce from Staatsolie, Suriname’s national oil company, at the Facility Simulator (FacTor) Unit of the Guyana Technical Training College on January 21.
Representatives from the Natuur Technisch Instituut Suriname (NATIN) joined the visit.
According to an update published on the SBM Offshore Guyana Facebook page, the team was taken on a guided tour of the facility, where they were provided with key insights into its daily operations.
FacTor, a fully functional plant simulating an FPSO using water and air, was established with support from the Guyana government, ExxonMobil, Hess, CNOOC, and SBM Offshore. The facility was commissioned in February 2024 by Guyana’s President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

Suriname is preparing for its first offshore oil project, the US$10.5 billion Block 58 development. The Gran Morgu field holds an estimated 750 million barrels of oil, with first oil expected in 2028.
A floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel will produce up to 220,000 barrels per day from around 30 wells. This is being constructed by SBM Offshore.
FacTor offers training opportunities that could potentially prepare Surinamese workers for FPSO-related jobs as that country advances its oil ambitions.
Just recently, the third batch of trainees was onboarded at FacTor. They form the second cohort of Guyanese to receive training at the facility.
