ExxonMobil said that it started a 60-day comment period related to its proposed Hammerhead project in Guyana. In a notice, Exxon said that it has submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Hammerhead Development Project to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In accordance with the Environmental Protection Act, the company has notified the public that they have 60 days from February 16, 2025, to review these documents and submit written comments to the EPA as they see fit.

To ensure accessibility, the EIA and EIS are available for download on the EPA’s website, Exxon reminded. Additionally, physical copies have been placed at the EPA office in Georgetown, the National Library in Georgetown, the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus, and the Regional Democratic Council offices across all ten administrative regions.
The Hammerhead Development Project is ExxonMobil’s seventh offshore oil project within the Stabroek Block area. It is targeting production of approximately 150,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d). Once this project comes online in 2029, subject to regulatory approvals, Guyana’s total offshore oil production capacity is expected to surpass 1.4 million b/d.

By making the impact study publicly available and inviting submissions, ExxonMobil is allowing stakeholders to provide feedback before final regulatory decisions are made. The company’s consultant, ERM, would have an opportunity to amend the document to incorporate questions and comments from the public before the EPA considers granting an environmental permit for Hammerhead.
