GAIMMS Guyana launched its first Welding and Fabrication Workshop aimed at equipping local apprentices with global-standard skills for the energy sector.
The program combines classroom learning with hands-on industrial training. It is designed to mirror real-world practices used on major projects. Graduates will have the chance to join an international exchange with STEP Oil & Gas in Brazil.
GAIMMS Guyana said trainees will cover key industry topics such as health, safety and environment (HSE), inspection and test plans (ITPs), project drawings, dimensional control, and quality control protocols.

The first cohort includes five apprentices: Eliyahu Yisrael, Tia Henry, Shabique Jabbar, Alex Andrews, and Dwayne Winter. They will work alongside GAIMMS professionals on the Yellowtail Steel Fabrication W-BEAMS Project.
The apprentices will be GAIMMS’ first locally trained welders, directly contributing to the development of Guyana’s offshore oil industry.
Derek Cardinez, GAIMMS’ General Manager, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to preparing Guyanese for high-value roles in oil and construction. “We’re bridging the gap between training and industrial application,” he said.

Director Wystan Robertson noted that the program builds on GAIMMS’ earlier training initiatives launched in January 2024. “From day one, we’ve focused on knowledge transfer and building a competent local workforce,” he said.
