Eight young Guyanese engineers have completed SBM Offshore Guyana’s Graduate Engineers’ Programme, marking the end of an intensive 18-month journey that took them across the company’s global operations.

The graduates were honoured during a ceremony on August 8, where they were recognised for successfully navigating a training cycle that included international rotations to locations such as Singapore and the Netherlands. They were assessed for final placements within SBM Offshore’s local operations after gaining exposure to the full operational life cycle of floating production vessels, from design to construction to operation.

At the same event, a third cohort of nine new engineers was welcomed to the programme. Their training begins with a focus on the upcoming Whiptail project, one of SBM Offshore’s major developments offshore Guyana.

“This programme offers more than just career growth, but an opportunity to dream big and deliver boldly,” said Shaun Prince, Human Resources Manager at SBM Offshore Guyana. “With world-class training and international exposure…our Graduate Engineers are positioned to make lasting contributions to the oil and gas sector as distinguished professionals and future leaders.”

General Manager Martin Cheong praised the outgoing cohort’s dedication. “Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have brought you to this remarkable milestone,” he said. “As you step into the professional world, remember that you are more than engineers – you are innovators, problem solvers and key contributors to the future of this country.”

Graduate engineer Johanan Dolphin urged the incoming group to embrace the opportunity fully. “SBM has been number one in the FPSO business for decades… the only way we can still be number one is if people accept the training, learn and carry on the mantle,” he said. “You and I are in the best position to learn from the best and brightest and also become the best and brightest.”

The Graduate Engineers’ Programme was created to target and train young Guyanese engineers for roles in SBM Offshore’s operations, rotating them across departments to build a comprehensive understanding of key processes. A portion of future training will also be conducted at the Facility Simulator (FacTor) Unit of the Guyana Technical Training College Incorporated in Port Mourant, Berbice.
