ExxonMobil Guyana Limited President Alistair Routledge said Longtail is on a clear 2026 decision track, speaking at an October 13 press briefing at the company’s new Ogle headquarters. He said the Environmental Impact Assessment is underway following early consultations.
Routledge stated that Exxon will bring that study to a conclusion, share results with communities, and submit the Field Development Plan to the government. He added that the company is looking forward to 2026 being the year of the Longtail project reviews, with a target to secure all the approvals necessary for the first non-associated gas development in the country.
Exxon anticipates having over a billion cubic feet per day of production and gas handling capacity.
“What that means is it’ll be the largest, by far, gas-handling facility in the Stabroek Block, and, in fact, quite a unique project on a global basis,” he said.
Early operations will prioritize liquids recovery and pressure support.
“We will re-inject all, or almost all of that gas,” Routledge noted, to maximize liquids output in the first years.

On volumes and phasing, Routledge said there are several trillion cubic feet of gas in the reservoir, adding, “what will ultimately be produced to market is probably about one trillion cubic feet.”
The near-term value will come from condensate. “The facility will produce somewhere around 250,000 barrels of condensate per day,” he added.
Longtail will tap the Longtail, Tripletail and Turbot reservoirs, discovered between 2017 and 2019. Company materials indicate it will be the easternmost of Exxon’s Guyana developments and is planned for a 30-year production life, compared to the 20-year basis typical of the Block’s oil projects.
If approved, Longtail would be the eighth Stabroek development, following six sanctioned oil projects (Liza Phase 1, Liza Phase 2 and Payara producing; Yellowtail, Uaru and Whiptail slated for 2025, 2026 and 2027) and Hammerhead, which recently reached FID.
