Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. has received two separate proposals for areas in Sector 3: DEMERARA, marking its second open acreage announcement in less than three weeks.

The state oil company announced the new proposals on July 6, 2026. They cover areas in Sector 3, one of the offshore zones available under Suriname’s Open Acreage model.

The announcement follows a June 17, 2026 proposal for an area in Sector 4: DW WEST. That earlier proposal also triggered a 90-day period for competing proposals.

The back-to-back announcements show fresh activity under Suriname’s Open-Door Process, which allows companies to pursue offshore acreage outside a traditional licensing round.

Staatsolie said qualified companies now have an opportunity to submit competing proposals in Sector 3: DEMERARA. The submission period opened on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3. It will close on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. GMT-3.

Suriname is using the open acreage model to market offshore areas as exploration attention continues across the Guyana-Suriname Basin. The latest Demerara sector announcement also comes as the country advances GranMorgu, its first major offshore oil development. GranMorgu is being developed in Block 58 by TotalEnergies, APA Corporation, and Staatsolie.
