A drill-stem test operation is set to get underway at the Redtail-1 well site located 103 nautical miles off the coast of Guyana at the Stabroek block. Redtail-1 is ExxonMobil’s 18 discovery on the block, announced in September.

The well test operation is expected to be undertaken between December 11 and 22 using the drillship Stena Carron which recently spudded the Tanager-1 well on the Kaieteur block.

Drill-stem testing is widely used to confirm or prove the presence and/or the producibility of oil and gas that is detected.

Redtail-1 encountered approximately 232 feet (70 meters) of high-quality oil-bearing sandstone and was drilled in 6,164 feet (1,878 meters) of water.

The well is located approximately 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometers) northwest of the Yellowtail discovery.
