Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canada Guyana Chamber of Commerce (CGCC), Ms. Natalia Seepersaud, said the organisation will be looking to ramp up its activities in 2021 as pandemic restrictions ease and more focus is placed on business-to-business development.

“Heading into 2021, and hopefully the easing of COVID-19 protocols on travel, we anticipate an increase in the Chamber’s activities and more B2B (Business-to Business) interactions with our members and Guyanese businesses,” she told OilNOW.

While Canada has been one of Guyana’s longtime partners, the CEO said the emerging oil and gas industry in Guyana is presenting new and “diverse opportunities in infrastructure development, renewable energy, ICT, and housing, as well as new focus on the sustainable development of traditional sectors such as mining, forestry and agriculture.”

As a result, she said this is the ideal time for Canadian businesses that have the capacity and resources Guyana needs, to expand into the new oil producing South American country.

“Similarly, Guyanese businesses can take advantage of the infrastructure, logistics and supply chains being put in place as a result of the oil and gas industry to expand into Canada,” she said.

The CEO pointed out that the Chamber has a collaborative vision and aims to find synergies with other local business groups while encouraging strategic partnerships and joint ventures between Canadian and Guyanese enterprises.

“The rapid development envisioned by the Government of Guyana and its commitment to providing an enabling environment for foreign investment, will allow the Chamber to attract more Canadian investment in Guyana and encourage strategic partnerships with local businesses,” she added.

In order to meet their objectives, the Chamber points local businesses into the direction of meeting the fundamentals required to develop strategic partnerships.  They are also coached on developing their businesses to meet the demands of an expanding Guyanese and Canadian marketplace.

The Chamber was launched on December 4 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, on the outskirts of Georgetown, Guyana.
