ExxonMobil Guyana said a crane toppled at around 10 a.m. Thursday while lifting a container, at the Ogle site where the company’s new Guyana office centre is being built.

No one was injured in the incident, nor was there any spillage of any kind, the company said.

It has since suspended all crane operations and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Exxon said it is committed to ensuring the health and safety of its employees and contractors.

The office centre is being built on the East Bank of Demerara. It will include a control centre and monitoring space for offshore operations. The cost is pegged at US$160 million. Expected to be completed by April 2024, the space will have the capacity to house over 500 persons. Exxon’s current Kingston office, a rental, is too small to facilitate its expanding work.
