ExxonMobil Guyana has issued a notice to suppliers that it will host a Request for Information (RFI) clarification forum for those who may be interested in participating in recent RFIs. The forum is scheduled for April 17 at the Marriott Hotel at Kingston, Georgetown. Â
The RFIs include:Â
- RFI 09-2023 Consultancy Services – Environmental and Socioeconomic Assessments (Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, Environmental and Social Management Plans, Cumulative Impact Assessments, Stakeholder Engagement Plans)
- RFI 10-2023 Biodiversity Assessments and Environmental MonitoringÂ
The RFIs were issued last month, and comes as environmental campaigners up focus on the impacts of proposed petroleum projects both onshore and offshore.
Guyana’s environmental assessment board recently heard appeals against a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to not require a separate EIA for a 300 megawatts (MW) natural gas power plant, part of the Gas-to-Energy. The board is expected to hand down a decision one hether to set aside the EIA’s decision, which could see an additional EIA being required for the project, and a delay to the start of construction.
ExxonMobil has proposed a sixth development project for the Stabroek Block, called Whiptail, for which an EIA was requested. Exxon hired Environmental Resources Management (ERM) for that study.
An assessment has also been requested for exploration drilling campaigns planned for ExxonMobil’s Kaieteur and Canje blocks. The operator of both blocks plans to drill 12 wells each.
