The Ministry of Natural Resources has announced a new fixed timeline for reviewing and approving local content certification applications. The update, released through the Local Content Secretariat today, takes effect in January 2026.

The move forms part of President Irfaan Ali’s wider push to modernize and expand public services. The Secretariat said the structured deadlines will bring “greater clarity, predictability, and efficiency” to the process and ensure companies know exactly how long approvals will take once all the required documents have been submitted.

Under the new framework, sole proprietorships and landlords will have new applications processed within five working days. Renewals will take three days. For 100% Guyanese-owned companies and partnerships, new applications will be processed within 15 working days, and renewals within 10 days. All other companies will see new applications processed within 21 working days and renewals within 15 days.

The Ministry stressed that timelines start only after all required documents are received to ensure processing is “consistent, transparent and aligned with the government’s commitment to a more responsive public service”.

An updated list of documents will be posted on the petroleum.gov.gy website.

Stakeholders in the petroleum sector were also urged to use the Local Content App, launched in February this year, to connect suppliers with contractors and subcontractors.

The Ministry of Natural Resources will launch an online submission portal in January 2026. It encouraged the public to “utilize these new facilities when submitting their applications”.
