Guyana’s Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is in neighbouring Suriname for a three-day visit, accompanied by Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat.

Dr. Jagdeo met President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation and Silvano Tjoong-Ahin, Minister of Spatial Planning & Environment at the Presidential Palace in Suriname.

During the three-day working visit, the Guyanese Vice President is expected to engage a number of Surinamese government officials.

Dr. Jagdeo’s visit follows one made by President Santokhi to Guyana in August.

The two countries have initiated discussions on the likelihood of establishing a common strategy for the development of their oil and gas sectors.

The countries have also local content development, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture, trade, security, and linkages between Suriname, Guyana, and Brazil. These discussions are aimed at reducing gaps and barriers, and creating opportunities between the two countries.
