Dear Editor,
As a recent graduate from the University of Guyana, with a great interest in technical education and awareness, I am pleased by the decision to establish an Occupational Safety and Health Centre of Excellence in New Amsterdam. This is the kind of initiative that has been needed in Guyana for a long time.
Throughout my years of studies, I have greatly observed that safety is often treated as an afterthought in our vocational spaces, and it truly brings me joy to see the growth as we now place value in its importance.
The revival of the CVQ Level 3 diploma underscores our firm commitment to equipping the next generation with the necessary knowledge for meaningful contributions within Guyana’s industrial landscape. Coupled with the dynamic growth of our energy and construction sectors, this truly marks Guyana’s emergence as a formidable force, both regionally and globally.
We can’t afford to think of safety as just gears and signs, it has to be a mindset. This upcoming Centre allows us to instill this way of thinking from day one. I hope it inspires similar efforts across other institutions, so that safety and professionalism become part of our national DNA.
