Dear Editor,

The Local Content Secretariat finally launched the Local Content App. Many people, including myself, have been waiting for this since the announcement was made last year. The Local Content App in my view, has now revolutionized how information on business opportunities is disseminated, consumed, and acted upon.

Yes, I will acknowledge that the Local Content Register website has been operational. Nevertheless, let’s not forget that the website interface on mobile phones is not the same as it would be on a laptop or desktop computer. However, the App is easily accessible, provides real-time notifications on supply and job opportunities, making it convenient for businesses and individuals to stay informed.

Based on the time I spent using the App, registration is simple, the information is well laid out and the interface is just as smooth as any other App. I think the Local Content Secretariat did a good job in creating the Local Content App.

Also, I think it would be remiss of me not to highlight that the Local Content App, while it will be useful for companies seeking contracts, persons can also find employment opportunities there. This in some way, creates a greater level of transparency in the oil and gas sector.

Editor, what I think needs to happen now is more awareness about this new development. Sometimes we fall prey to thinking that because it was said at a big forum, everyone automatically knows. The Local Content App needs to be advertised throughout the country so that persons living in the far-flung communities, especially our hinterland brothers and sisters are aware and can benefit from the opportunities the country has to offer.

Sincerely,

Greg Lynch
