The Government of Guyana has confirmed that the ONE GUYANA floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is the first offshore unit in the country equipped with “full sparing on all gas processing compressors”.

According to the government, this ensures “uninterrupted gas handling even during planned or unplanned maintenance events”.

The vessel will produce approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d) from the Yellowtail and Redtail fields, raising Guyana’s total daily crude output to over 900,000 b/d. This will be a significant increase from the previous combined average of 677,000 bpd across the Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, and Payara Prosperity FPSOs.

Built by SBM Offshore, ONE GUYANA is supported by advanced Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) infrastructure, allowing for production from 26 production wells and 25 water-alternating-gas injection wells.

“Yellowtail’s ahead-of-schedule startup is a significant milestone for ExxonMobil and the people of Guyana,” Dan Ammann, President of ExxonMobil Upstream Company, said. He added, “With Guyanese making up more than 67% of the country’s oil-and-gas workforce and over 2,000 local businesses engaged, this project reflects our deepening roots in the country and our shared commitment to long-term, inclusive growth.”

The government noted that the Yellowtail Petroleum Production Licence, approved in 2022, served as a model for future licences, embedding stronger environmental and safety requirements, improved decommissioning safeguards, and alignment with Guyana’s climate commitments.

ExxonMobil Guyana reported that it delivered all four offshore developments under budget and ahead of schedule in just five years. It plans to bring four additional projects online by 2030, with a target of producing 1.7 million oil-equivalent barrels per day by the end of the decade.
