The Stena Carron drillship is nearing the end of its current campaign offshore Guyana, with one managed pressure drilling (MPD) well remaining.
The vessel recently began operations at the Hamlet-1 exploration well in the southeastern section of the Stabroek Block. It is also drilling the Lukanani-2 appraisal well.
The Hamlet-1 well site is located approximately 104.4 nautical miles (193.4 kilometers) offshore. It covers an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer). Lukanani-2 follows the Lukanani-1 discovery announced in April 2022. That well encountered 115 feet (35 meters) of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone in water depths of 4,068 feet (1,240 meters).

Data from Stena Drilling’s MPD well count chart published in the Energy Magazine Q2 shows that Stena Carron drilled nine MPD wells in 2023, 10 in 2024, with only one remaining in 2025.
Stena Drilling uses advanced MPD solutions to increase drilling efficiency. The company said on its site that these include Surface Back Pressure systems on the DrillMAX and IceMAX rigs. The Stena Evolution rig employs a next-generation Controlled Mud Level Plus setup.
According to the data, 2023 and 2024 were peak years for MPD activity across the Stena fleet, with all five rigs, Stena Carron, DrillMAX, IceMAX, Forth and Evolution, contributing to operations.
