SBM Offshore Guyana has achieved 900 hours of training with local vendors in 2024, as part of its commitment to enhancing operational standards among Guyanese businesses. Local Content Lead Garri Fraser disclosed the achievement during the company’s Vendor Day and Human Rights Workshop held on December 4, 2024. Additionally, 200 hours of training and certifications were conducted with contractors this year.

The Vendor Day provided over 50 Guyanese business representatives with insights into SBM Offshore’s supply chain, procurement, and compliance processes. It also served as a platform for vendors to share feedback and learn strategies to bridge gaps in service delivery, the company said in a release.
SBM Offshore’s General Manager, Martin Cheong, emphasized the importance of integrating human rights into operations during the event.

“You’ll discover how integrating human rights into your business practices can yield tangible benefits—such as retaining employees, building trust with clients, and strengthening your relationships with governments and regulators. Far from being a cost, human rights are an investment in the long-term resilience and reputation of your business,” he said.
The Human Rights Workshop focused on workplace practices and sustainability, framed within Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Facilitated by the Centre for Local Business Development, the session explored human rights principles that vendors must adopt to align with SBM Offshore’s benchmarks.
SBM Offshore said these initiatives reflect its dedication to local content development in Guyana, equipping local businesses with the tools to thrive in a competitive industry.
SBM Offshore was the first major Exxon contractor to receive approval for its local content master plan by the Local Content Secretariat, in 2022.
