The contracts grant exclusive exploration, development, and production rights. The initial three-year exploration phase will focus on acquiring and processing 3D seismic data to define subsurface structures and identify hydrocarbon reservoirs.
Minister of Oil, Gas and Environment Patrick Brunings said the signing aligns with the country’s broader development vision. “We will continue to attract investors to invest in our basin and use these revenues to make Suriname greener and more sustainable, which we call Suriname 3.0.”
The PSCs, which run for 30 years, were signed by Staatsolie Managing Director Annand Jagesar, PETRONAS Suriname Country Head Danny Tan, QatarEnergy Manager Upstream International Ali Al Mana, Chevron Americas Exploration Director Andrew Deighan and POC Director Rekha Bissumbhar. Minister Brunings and David Abiamofo, Minister of Natural Resources, attended the signing ceremony.
Blocks 9 and 10 lie in shallow waters about 50 kilometers off the Saramacca coast. Block 9 covers 2,674 square kilometers and Block 10 spans 2,972 square kilometers, with water depths reaching 50 meters.
“I reaffirm the government’s continued support. The success of Blocks 9 and 10 will not only bring economic development, but will also create opportunities for capacity building, employment and community development,” Minister Abiamofo said.
Staatsolie said the agreements mark a key milestone in advancing Suriname’s offshore oil and gas potential with trusted global partners.
