The Stena Carron drill rig will continue exploration operations at ExxonMobil’s Goatfish-1 well in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.

A notice from the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) outlined that drilling activities are scheduled to conclude on May 31, 2026.

The Goatfish-1 well site is situated approximately 109.22 nautical miles (202.27 kilometers) off the coast of Guyana and covers an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).

It lies in the southeastern portion of the Stabroek Block, near the Suriname border. ExxonMobil, operator of the Stabroek Block, has confirmed that the area has yielded more natural gas than oil in its discoveries. The government has encouraged Exxon to now prioritize development of the country’s gas resources, which have been estimated at 17 trillion cubic feet.

ExxonMobil is the operator of the Stabroek Block with a 45% stake. Its co-venturers are Hess (owned by Chevron) and CNOOC.
