ExxonMobil is advancing exploration drilling at the Lau Lau-2 well site at the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The drilling operation, being undertaken by the Stena Carron, will conclude on December 31, 2024.
The site is located 116.73 nautical miles (216.18 kilometers) off Guyana’s coast and spans 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).
The Lau Lau field was discovered in January 2022. The well uncovered approximately 315 feet (96 meters) of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone reservoirs. To visualize, this height equals three stacked Marriott Hotels in Georgetown or more than twice the height of the St. George’s Cathedral, which stands at 43.5 metres (143 ft).
Westwood Global Energy Group estimates the Lau Lau discovery holds over 100 million oil-equivalent barrels, with gas exceeding oil.

So far ExxonMobil has found over 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent resources offshore Guyana and is currently producing over 650,000 barrels of oil per day.
