TotalEnergies has announced the restart of production from the Tyra hub in the Danish North Sea, following the completion of a major redevelopment project. This restart marks a major moment for Denmark, as the Tyra hub, at plateau, is expected to produce 5.7 million cubic meters of gas and 22,000 barrels of condensate per day. This level of production will once again establish Denmark as self-sufficient and a net exporter of natural gas.

Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, expressed satisfaction with the restart, highlighting the Tyra hub as “one of the most technologically advanced offshore gas installations in the world.”

Terraz attributed the success of the redevelopment to the dedication of their teams, partners, and contractors, noting the incorporation of cutting-edge digital solutions and technological innovations. These advancements have not only enhanced production efficiency but have also resulted in a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the previous facilities, the company said. Terraz said the Tyra hub’s operational resumption is significant for improving Europe’s security of supply.

The Tyra field, discovered in 1968 by Maersk Oil, lies 225 kilometers west of Esbjerg’s coast. Production was halted in September 2019 to facilitate the redevelopment, which involved the decommissioning of the old facilities and the installation of 8 new platform topsides, 2 jackets, and 6 bridges. Most (approximately 98.5%) of the materials from the dismantled installations have been either reused or recycled. The gas produced at the Tyra hub is transported to Europe via two export pipelines, leading to Nybro in Denmark and Den Helder in the Netherlands.
