Aboard the Stena DrillMAX, Guyanese professionals are playing key roles in keeping offshore operations in tip-top shape. In the latest edition of Energy Magazine – OilNOW’s sister agency – a spotlight was shone on a few of these hardworking men and women.

Ranging from drilling support to hospitality and communications, their invaluable contributions reflect the growing expertise among locals in Guyana’s burgeoning oil and gas sector.

Raymon Chaturia, Derrickman

“My interest in the Oil & Gas industry started when Guyana first discovered oil. I was curious on how they managed to get it out from the ground,” Derrickman Raymon Chaturia said.

With more than six years of offshore experience under his belt, Raymon plays a critical role in drilling operations. He conditions drilling fluids, maintains mud pumps and bulk systems, and monitors volumes.

Raymon was previously with Noble Drilling and Carnival Cruise Lines. Now, aboard the DrillMAX, he deftly applies those skills in a high-pressure environment. “When work gets complicated and decisions are hard, I can rely on my training and the great team around me to give their support,” Raymon says with confidence.

Romona Leonard, Stewardess

“This journey is not just a job, it’s a dream come true,” Romona Leonard, the dedicated stewardess aboard the Stena DRILLMAX, expressed with enthusiasm.

Romona maintains accommodations for the DrillMAX crew, office spaces, laundry services, and coffee stations. Her efforts also extend to supporting the galley team and the emergency response team.

Recently elected Department Safety Officer, she is helping to shape a safer and more inclusive offshore environment. “I’ve always loved the sea,” she said. “When I first heard about offshore oil work, I became fascinated.”

Kendra Pereira, Radio Operator

“It’s an honour to show the world what Guyanese professionals can do,” Kendra Pereira, the DrillMAX’s Radio Operator, said.

Kendra – a former teacher and aviation professional – now ensures accurate crew coordination, tracks arrivals and departures, and manages essential records.

She has supported offshore operations in Canada. Now, aboard the DrillMAX, she sees her work as an integral part of a larger mission. “Being part of this international journey is a huge achievement,” she proudly shared. “It allows me to contribute globally, while sharing the Guyanese culture and professionalism.”
