The second edition of the Who’s Who in Guyana Business directory was officially launched on Saturday in Georgetown, the capital city of the new South American oil producing nation.

Speaking at the launch, British High Commissioner to Guyana, Greg Quinn, said the number of people who have used the business directory over the past year since it was officially launched in January 2019 is a clear indication that such a publication was in demand for quite some time.

He said the need for such a directory has been further increased with the emergence of the petroleum industry and resulting business activity it is bringing from companies around the world, including the United Kingdom.

“It is important to also say that it’s not just about oil and it’s not just about gas, these are all sorts of businesses; be they retail, be they services, be they infrastructure. In my view, that shows that there are many different opportunities in many different areas here in Guyana,” the High Commissioner said.

The Who’s Who in Guyana Business directory, he said, is an example of entrepreneurs pursuing business opportunities outside of oil and gas, although bolstered by its very presence.

Head of ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc, Vishnu Doerga, said the directory specifically serves organisations seeking to invest, build or expand their operations in Guyana.

“It is organised in 14 economic sectors and it provides a customised layout of company profiles, contact information and photographs of key players in the organisation, he said.

Doerga said the response to the 2019 edition has been overwhelming with every single copy having been distributed.

“It was distributed through many public and private sector organisations, all the ministries, the hotels and airport lounges. The embassies really helped with making sure it got into the hands of everyone who comes and asks about the opportunities in Guyana,” he said.

The American Embassy, and the British and Canadian High Commissions were instrumental in making sure that the directory got into the hands of investors coming into the country looking for key business information, he pointed out.

The accompanying website for the directory – www.whoswho.gy – has also been seeing increased traffic and has surpassed 100,000 hits with 20 to 30 downloads per day with heightening interest from countries in the region, led by Trinidad.

The second edition of the Who’s Who in Guyana Business directory was unveiled at the launch by High Commissioner Quinn and Editor of the publication, Divya Doerga. A digital copy of the publication can also be viewed at www.whoswho.gy.
