Suriname’s state oil company, Staatsolie, has confirmed to OilNOW that Chevron will drill the Korikori-1 well in Block 5 sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

Staatsolie’s affiliate Paradise Oil Company holds a 40% stake in Block 5. Chevron is the operator with 40% and QatarEnergy holds the remaining 20%.

Block 5 is located offshore Suriname in shallow water depths of about 30-45 meters.

According to Geo Expro magazine, the exploration potential in Suriname’s shallow offshore area is underscored by the extension of the Campanian-Santonian distal shelf and intra-slope turbidite plays from offshore Guyana into Suriname.

Substantial discoveries have also been made by companies like APA and TotalEnergies in Block 58, with the recent success of the Roystonea-1 exploration well in Block 52, drilled by Petronas in 2023, further extending the play eastward.
